DC60 (08/10/42) This invention relates to mixtures suitable for use as sunscreens, comprising a UVA absorbing sunscreen active ingredient and a carrier suitable for skin application. These mixtures are primarily free from benzilidine-kaemfer derivatives and exhibit excellent stability, efficacy, and UV protection efficacy in a safe, economical, and user-friendly manner. The mixtures have a minimum Sun Protection Index of approximately 1.75, a minimum UVA effectiveness of approximately 0.5, a minimum UVA stability index of approximately 0.85, a minimum UVB stability index of approximately 0.85, and a transparency value of less than approximately 10. The method of application of such mixtures is also disclosed. Claims (20)

1. A suitable sunscreen formulation consisting of: a) an active sunscreen ingredient that absorbs a safe and effective amount of UVA rays, and b) a carrier suitable for application to the skin, primarily free of benzilidine camphor derivatives, with a minimum UVA efficacy index of approximately 1.75, a minimum UVA efficacy value of approximately 0.5, a minimum UVA stability index of approximately 0.85, a minimum UVBV stability index of approximately 0.85, and a transparency value of less than approximately 10. 2. The mixture as per claim 1 must have a sun protection efficacy index of at least approximately 2.0. 3. The mixture as per claim 2 must have a sun protection efficacy index of at least approximately 2.25. 4. The mixture as per claim 3 must have a sun protection efficacy index of at least approximately 2.5. 5. The mixture as per claim 1 shall have a UVA effectiveness of at least approximately 0.55. 6. The mixture as per claim 1 shall have a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.90. 7. The mixture as per claim 6 shall have a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.95. 8. The mixture as per claim 1 shall have a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.90. 9. The mixture as per claim 8 shall have a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.95. 10. The mixture under claim 1 has a transparency value of approximately 8. 11. The mixture pursuant to claim 10 has a transparency value of less than approximately 6. 12. A suitable sunscreen formulation consisting of: a) an active sunscreen ingredient that absorbs a safe and effective amount of UVA rays, and b) a carrier suitable for application to the skin, primarily free of benzilidine camphor derivatives, with a sun protection efficacy index of at least approximately 2.0, a UVA efficacy value of at least approximately 0.5, a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.90, a UVB stability index of at least approximately 0.90, and a transparency value of less than approximately 8. 13. The mixture as per claim 12 shall have a sun protection efficacy index of at least approximately 2.25. 14. The mixture as per claim 12 shall have a UVA effectiveness of at least approximately 0.55. 15. The mixture as per claim 12 shall have a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.95. 16. The mixture as per claim 12 shall have a UVB stability index of at least approximately 0.95. 17. The mixture under claim 12 has a transparency value of less than approximately 6. 18. A suitable sunscreen formulation consisting of: a) an active sunscreen ingredient that absorbs a safe and effective amount of UVA rays, and b) a suitable carrier for application to the skin. The formulation is primarily free of benzylitone-camper derivatives and has a sunscreen efficacy index of at least approximately 2.25, a UVA efficacy value of at least approximately 0.5, a UVA stability index of at least approximately 0.95, and a transparency value of less than approximately 6. 19. The mixture as per claim 18 shall have a UVA effectiveness of at least approximately 0.55. 20. The mixture as per claim 20 shall have a UVA effectiveness of at least approximately 0.55.
