A suitable mixture for use as a nail coating product consisting of (a) a selected water-insoluble film-forming polymer from a group consisting of polyacryl, polymethacryl, polyurethane-polyacryl mixtures, polyurethane-polymethacryl mixtures, urethane-acryl copolymers, and a mixture of such polymers in amounts ranging from 0.1% to 20% by weight of the mixture; and (b) a suitable carrier for use on human nails consisting of a liquid diluent comprising (i) a volatile organic solvent in amounts ranging from 10% to 90% by weight of the mixture; and (ii) water, in which case, when the mixture contains between 10% and 30% by weight of the organic solvent, it is noticeably free of fluorinated polymers, and when the mixture contains more than 10% polymers, it contains less than 1% iso-propanol.
