It extends outward towards the inward edge of the barrier and terminates on the inside of the barrier. Therefore, the liquid is generally prevented from being drawn downward and beyond the barrier to the edge of the absorbent layer.

The absorbent pad comprises an absorbent core with side edges facing the clothing and facing the body; an impermeable backing pad positioned adjacent to the clothing-facing surface of the absorbent core; a leak-proof strip extending outwards from each opposing edge of the absorbent core and along each edge at least into the crotch area; an operationally integrated expansion unit of the strip to form a leak-proof edge; a hydrophobic barrier positioned adjacent to each of these barriers; each barrier has a channel composed of near and far edges; each near edge is positioned inward of the expansion unit of the strip at least into the crotch area; an operationally integrated separation path with the barrier to separate the far edge from the absorbent pad's liquid-receiving surface, causing the barrier to stand upright; and a sealing path positioned along each near edge. To bond each of these near edges to the leak-proof strip, creating a leak-proof seal along the near edge, the permeable top plate is positioned next to the body-facing surface of the absorbent. This top plate extends outward towards the inside of the near edge and terminates on the inside of the near edge. Thus, the liquid is generally prevented from being drawn underneath and beyond the barrier to the edge of the absorbent.

This top pad extends outward toward the inward opposing edges. Both edges of the absorbent piece terminate at the inside of the said edge; therefore, the liquid is generally prevented from being drawn beyond the edges of the absorbent piece.
