Abstract

This invention relates to the manufacturing process of toothpaste, which contains abrasive and binding agents consisting of guar gum or other plant gums, either wholly or partially. The plant gums are hydrated using a liquid hydration medium consisting of water and 0 to 33% by weight of sorbitol. Hydration of the plant gums is achieved by mixing them with the hydration medium, ensuring that the abrasive content is sufficient to generate adequate shear forces to create a smooth cream. Other minor components are then added.

Claims (1)

1. The process of preparing toothpaste involves a liquid humectant phase containing essential components: an aqueous sorbitol solution thickened by a hydrated binder containing hydrated plant gum and insoluble abrasive particles dispersed in the thickened liquid phase. The process involves hydrating the plant gum (under shear force) with a liquid humectant medium consisting of water and 0 to 33% by weight of sorbitol. The abrasive particles are present in sufficient quantities to generate shear force during mixing, ensuring complete hydration of the plant gum and the formation of a smooth cream. The remaining water and humectant are then mixed with the hydrated plant gum, any remaining abrasive particles, and other commonly used minor components to produce the toothpaste.
