Abstract

DC60 (16/03/55) A system for controlling the transmission of information between the receiver and the security module, specifically for subscription-based television reception systems. The transmitted information is encrypted and decrypted using unique encryption keys stored, one aspect in the receiver and the other aspect in the security module. The system controls the transmission of information between the receiver and the security module, particularly for subscription-based television reception systems, where the transmitted information is alternately encrypted and decrypted using unique alternating encryption keys stored, one aspect in the receiver and the other aspect in the security module.

Claims (20)

1. A subscription-based television receiving system consists of a receiving device (A) which is connected to security devices (C,D,F). The receiving device (A) receives unencrypted data (descrambling information) from the security devices (C,D,F). A special feature is that some of the data (4,6) sent from the security devices (C,D,F) to the receiving device (A) is encrypted using a unique secret key. 2. The subscription-based television reception system under claim 1 has a unique characteristic: a proprietary encryption key that can be shared among a group of receiving devices. 3. The subscription television receiving system under claim 1 or 2 has the special characteristic that some data (3,5) sent from the receiving device (A) to the security device (C,D,F) is encrypted by a unique secret key. 4. The subscription-based television reception system under claims 1 to 3 has the following special characteristics: the receiving device (A), including the private number which may be stored in the security devices (C, D, F), enables the receiving device (A) to verify the validity of the private number stored in the security devices (C, D, F) at all times. 5. The subscription-based television reception system under claim 4 has a unique characteristic: the private number consists of a part specific to a group of receiving devices and a part specific to a single receiving device, and its compatibility is checked against the part specific to the group of receiving devices. 6. The subscription television receiving system under claims 1 through 5 has the following characteristics: the receiving device (A) includes a control unit (B) and a security device consisting of a removable security module (C) in which confidential information (4) and/or data (4) necessary for the operation of the control unit (B) are stored. 7. The subscription-based television reception system under rights 1 through 5 has a special feature: a security device consisting of a security module used to adjust and verify the decoding of detachable signals (F), which has a control unit (B) and a security unit (C). These units are responsible for adjusting the received signal and for checking the audio and video data signals. 8. A subscription-based television receiving system consists of a receiver (A) connected to security devices (C, D, F). The receiver (A) receives unencrypted data from the security devices (C, D, F). The security devices consist of a removable security module (C) and a removable decryption module (D), which includes a control unit (B). The confidential data (4) and/or data (4) necessary for the operation of the control unit (B) are encrypted before being sent to the removable decryption module (D) by the removable security module (C) using a unique cryptographic key. 9. The subscription-based television reception system under claim 10 has the following characteristics: the private number consists of a part specific to a group of decoding modules that can be decoded (D) and a part specific to one decoding module (D), and it has the unique characteristic of matching only with the part specific to the group of decoding modules that can be decoded. 12. A subscription television reception system under rights 9 to 11, which is characterized by at least some data (5) being sent from the receiving device (A) to a decoding module (D) which is encrypted by a unique encryption key. 13. The transmission control system according to claims 9 to 12 has the following special characteristics: some data (6) which is sent from the decoded receiver module (D) to the receiver device (A) will be encrypted by a unique encryption key. 14. A subscription television receiving system pursuant to any one of the claims 12 and 13, which is characterized by a receiving device (A) including a private number which may be recorded in a removable decoder module (D), which enables the said receiving device (A) to continuously check for match of this private number recorded in the said removable decoder module (D). 15. Method of controlling data transmission in a subscription-based television receiving system between the receiving device (A) and security devices (C, D, F). The security device transmits decoded data to the receiving device (A) for decoding of the television picture and sound signals. A unique characteristic is that at least one unique encryption key is stored in the receiving device (A) or in the security device. The data transmitted between the receiving device (A) and the security device is encrypted and decrypted using this unique encryption key. 16. The method under claim 15 is characterized by the private number that the receiving device (A) is recorded in the security device during the setup process and by the private number that the receiving device (A) may check for matching of this private number recorded in the said security device at any time. 17. A removable security module (C) intended to be connected to the receiver (A) as part of a subscription television receiving system, which includes permanently capable memory to store confidential data and/or information necessary for the operation of the decoding system and the method of data transmission between the receiver (A). Specifically, this removable security module (C) includes a method for encrypting data transmission, and this memory includes at least one encryption key to encrypt such transmission. 18. A removable decoder module (D) is part of a signaling system that includes a control unit (B), a first transmitter (3,4) containing a removable security module (C), a second transmitter (5,6) containing a receiver (A), and permanently encryptable memory that includes the first encryption method and the encryption key that performs the first encryption method to encrypt the data transmission according to the first transmission method (3,4). 19. The removable decoder module (D) under claim 18 is characterized by the inclusion of a second cryptographic method and is characterized by the inclusion of at least one set of alternate encryption keys which follow the second cryptographic method intended for the encryption of the transmission by the second transmission method (5,6). 20. A subscription-based television receiver that incorporates methods for transmitting data to security devices (C, D, F), as well as immutable memory, is characterized by methods for encrypting/decrypting data transmission to and from the security devices (C, D, F). Specifically, this memory contains encryption keys that function using encryption or decryption methods for data transmission.
