Abstract

The thin plastic sheet of this invention is characterized by a less glossy appearance and a less sticky tactile feel. And, as it should be chosen, it will be used as a liquid-impermeable backing for disposable healthcare wear.

Claims

1. A thin, flexible plastic sheet with a ribbed structure exhibiting an external appearance resembling a knitted textile. The sheet is composed of: a series of continuous ribs in one direction, each with opposite downward-curving lateral edges; and a series of continuous ribs in a second direction, each with opposite downward-curving lateral edges, thus intersecting each other in the first and second directions. The sheet is continuous within the region defined by each pair of adjacent ribs in the first direction and each pair of adjacent ribs in the second direction intersecting the adjacent pair of ribs in the first direction; and the top of such an adjacent pair of ribs in the second direction is attached to the lateral edge of such an adjacent pair of ribs in the first direction at the first and second intersection points, which are adjacent and diagonally opposite each other on one side; and the top of such an adjacent pair of ribs in the first direction is attached to the lateral edge of such an adjacent pair of ribs in the second direction at the third and fourth intersection points, which are adjacent and diagonally opposite each other on the other side.

2. The thin, flexible plastic sheet referred to in claim 1 herein, such pair of ridges in the first direction that are close together shall include a link which connects the opposite lower edges of these ridges.

3. The flexible plastic sheet referred to in Claim 1 herein shall be an impermeable material.
