เกมไขว้อักษรไทยมีหลักสำคัญคือ ขนาดของตัวเล่น (TILE) เท่ากันหมดทั้งพยัญชนะ สระ กลุ่มวรรณยุกต์ (เอท โท ตรี จัตวา) สระประกอบกลุ่มวรรณยุกต์ ฯลฯ สามารถวางในตารางซึ่งแบ่งเป็นสามช่องหรือสามส่วน โดยมีพยัญชนะ สระข้างหน้า สระข้างหลัง วางอยู่ที่ส่วนกลาง ใช้หนึ่งช่องต่อหนึ่งตัวเล่นสระล่าง (อุ,อู) วางอยู่ส่วนล่างใต้พยัญชนะเท่านั้น ส่วนสระบน ไม้หันอากาศ หยาดน้ำค้างเหล่านี้พร้อมกลุ่มวรรณยุกต์ รวมทั้งไม่ไต่คู้ และ การันต์ วางที่ส่วนบนเหนือพยัญชนะเท่านั้น ทั้งนี้เพื่อบังคับให้ตารางหนึ่งมีตัวเลขสูงสุดแต่ 3 ตัว ตัวเล่นมีจำนวน 105 ตัว กระดานไขว้อักษรมี 255 ตาราง แต่ละตารางลงตัวเล่นได้ 1-3 ตัว จำนวนตัวเล่นอาจลดลงได้เป็น 101 ตัว รวมทั้งตารางก็สามารถลดลงเป็น 225 ตาราง โดยตัดตารางแนวตั้งซ้ายสุดและขวาสุดออกไปThe key principle of the Thai crossword puzzle is that all tiles are the same size, including consonants, vowels, tone marks (Eth, Toh, Tri, Chatwa), and vowels with tone marks. They can be placed in a grid divided into three sections. Consonants and preceding vowels are placed in the center, using one tile per section. Lower vowels (U, Oo) are placed only below the consonant, while upper vowels, the "mai han akat" and "yat nam khang" diacritics, along with their tone marks, "mai tai khu" and "karan," are placed above the consonant. This limits the maximum number of tiles per grid to three. There are 105 tiles, resulting in a crossword puzzle with 255 squares. Each square can hold 1-3 tiles. The number of tiles can be reduced to 101, and the grid can be reduced to 225 by removing the leftmost and rightmost vertical squares.

Claims

1. The Thai crossword game consists of: a playing board with many grids, each grid divided into three sections for assembling playing pieces into words. Each grid can hold at least one playing piece. The center section is used for all consonants, prefixes/post-consonants, and the double consonant mark (mai yamok), i.e., ะ า ำ เ แ โ ใ ไ ๆ. The top section is used for vowels placed above the dewdrop mark and tone groups, or vowels combined with tone groups where any specific tone mark can be chosen, i.e., เอก โท ตรี จัตวา เอก ไม้ไต่คู้, เอก โท ตรี สระอิ ไม้เอก, เอก โท ตรี สระอี จัตวา, เอก โท ตรี สระอึ จัตวา, เอก โท ตรี สระอือ จัตวา, เอก โท ตรี ไม้หันอากาศ จัตวา, and so on. The bottom section is used for lower vowels. The game requires the player to place many playing pieces of equal size on at least one section of each grid on the playing board.
