Abstract

Novel topical treatments for cellulite have been proposed, with comparative data showing structural improvements in the thigh tissue area. Treatments addressing cellulite include skin thickening, thigh firming, and thigh reduction. Therapies target disrupting skin water blockages and increasing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) over extended periods of weeks or months, and include mechanical solvent-based methods such as peeling or acetone washing. Popular treatments include creams with active ingredients such as lactic acid to increase TEWL, retinoids (preferably vitamin A palmitate) to break down blockage formation and further increase TEWL, and cerebroocytes to inhibit lipid synthesis and further increase TEWL. Diuretics for immediate improvement, and anti-irritants and antioxidants for irritation control are alternative ingredients.

Claims (15)

1. The method for correcting cellulite involves applying a therapeutic composition specifically to the skin areas covering the inflamed cells (cellulite). This therapeutic composition will disrupt the chronic blockage of the stratum corneum and inhibit its repair until the desired cellulite correction is achieved. 2. The method under Claim 1 in which such treatment is administered continuously for at least 8 weeks. 3. A method under Claim 1 in which such treatment results in an increase of at least one hundred percent in transepidermal water loss, and for a period of at least 8-26 weeks. 4. The method under Claim 1, in which such treatment consists of the topical application of a cosmetic composition containing, by weight of, the following proportions of the composition: a) cosmetic-compatible and pH-lowering hydroxycarboxylic acid in a proportion from approximately 1 to approximately 15 percent; b) retinoid cell renewal stimulant in a proportion from approximately 0.005 to approximately 6 percent; and c) cerebroside blockage repair inhibitor in a proportion from approximately 0.01 to approximately 5 percent. 5. Method under claim 4 where the cosmetic composition is applied topically twice daily for at least 8 weeks. 6. Method according to claim 4, where hydroxycarboxylic acid contains from approximately 5 to approximately 10 percent lactic acid, glucolic acid, or salicylic acid; the cell renewal stimulant retinoid contains from approximately 0.3 to 3 percent vitamin A palmitate; and the blockage repair inhibitor cerebroside contains from approximately 0.1 to approximately 0.5 percent cerebroside. 7. Treatment methods for cellulite involve the application of topical therapeutic compositions to the affected skin areas (cellulite). This treatment disrupts the water-blocking function of the stratum corneum, leading to increased chronic water loss through the epidermis over a period of up to 8 weeks until the desired cellulite resolution is achieved. The chosen treatment is from a group of methods for breaking down skin occlusion, including the application of exfoliants in solutions, mechanical scrubbing, and solvent extraction of hydrophobic occlusive components. 8. Composition for Cellulite Treatment: This composition, applied to skin areas affected by cellulite, disrupts the occlusive function of the stratum corneum and consists of the following proportions by weight: a) Cosmetic-compatible hydroxycarboxylic acids and pH reducers ranging from approximately 1 to 15 percent; b) Retinoid cell renewal enhancers ranging from approximately 0.005 to 6 percent; and c) Cerebroside occlusive repair inhibitors to inhibit skin occlusive repair ranging from approximately 0.01 to 5 percent. 9. Composition of the Cellulite Treatment according to Patent 8, which contains approximately 5 to 10 percent hydroxycarboxylic acid, lactic acid, glucolic acid, or salicylic acid; approximately 0.3 to 3 percent vitamin A palmitate, a cell renewal stimulant, and approximately 0.1 to 0.5 percent cerebroside, a occlusive repair inhibitor. 10. Composition: The cellulite treatment under claim 8 shall consist of at least one alternative ingredient selected from a group of diuretics to stimulate blood flow, anti-irritants and antioxidants to control irritation induced by stratum corneum occlusiveness or by stimulants of such cell renewal, and a combination of such ingredients. 11. Composition: The cellulite treatment consists of substances that disrupt the occlusive function of the stratum corneum, cell renewal stimulants, and inhibitors to prevent the repair of occlusive skin blockages. 12. Composition of the cellulite treatment under claim 11, whereby the inhibitor of such blockage repair is cerebroside I or II or a mixture of such substances in a proportion from approximately 0.01 to approximately 5 percent by weight. 13. Composition: The cellulite treatment under claim 11 shall consist of at least one alternative ingredient selected from a group of diuretics to stimulate blood flow, anti-irritants and antioxidants to control irritation induced by such agents to disrupt stratum corneum blockage or by agents that stimulate cell renewal, and a combination of such agents. 14. Composition of the Cellulite Treatment under Claim 11: It shall consist of approximately 5 to 10 percent lactic acid, approximately 0.5 to 4.0 percent vitamin A palmitate, and approximately 0.1 to 0.5 percent cerebroside I or II, or a mixture of these substances. 15. Composition: The cellulite treatment under claim 11 will result in an increase in epidermal water loss of at least 100 percent after 8 weeks of application.
