The egg collection system consists of interconnected components arranged between groups of spaced-out rows of cages and transverse conveyors. Each row of cages has its own cage conveyor for transporting eggs from individual cages within that row to the egg collection system. The system comprises separate continuous flexible belts of baskets, with one belt dedicated to each cage conveyor. Each basket within each continuous flexible belt of the system is sized to hold only one egg and has two walls to contain the egg being transported. A turning device guides each continuous flexible belt through a point where eggs from each cage conveyor are collected and held by the basket, and a point where eggs are released from the basket and transported onto the transverse conveyors. Each continuous flexible belt is adjustable to change the spacing between the basket belts, adapting the egg collection system to specific groups of cage rows and inverting devices. The continuous, flexible conveyor belt is used in a pattern that gently lowers the eggs, moved within the baskets, onto a cross conveyor by gravity. This results in efficient and effective transfer of the eggs from the arranged rows of cages to the cross conveyor without causing any additional impact to the machinery.

A reversing device drives and directs the movement of the continuous flexible conveyor belts, initially passing through the cage conveyors for egg collection and finally through the cross conveyors for egg placement. This reversing device comprises a chain wheel positioned facing each continuous flexible conveyor belt to transmit movement by engaging with the baskets without protruding into them. Each continuous flexible conveyor belt contains individual interchangeable baskets, each connected by a detachable linkage to other baskets on the belt. Each basket is sized to hold a single egg.
