Abstract
Page 1 of 1. Summary of the Invention. This invention describes a lightweight, hollow concrete wall panel where the height of the dowel exceeds the depth of the groove, resulting in a gap between the edges of the panel when the panels are joined together by interlocking the dowels into the grooves. Epoxy adhesive is applied to the dowels and grooves to bond the panels together. Although epoxy adhesive is expensive, this panel design allows for reduced adhesive usage. Furthermore, only partial application of epoxy adhesive to the grooves is possible, resulting in lower overall adhesive costs. This cost savings are achieved by designing the panel with a dowel height greater than the groove depth, creating a gap between the edges. This gap can then be easily filled with adhesive mortar. Since the bond strength of epoxy adhesive is 10 times greater than that of adhesive mortar, and the gap between the panel edges is filled with adhesive mortar, cracking is prevented. This process occurs on the wall surface after the entire wall panel has been installed, and the wall panel installation method described in this invention is cleaner and more time-efficient than the traditional method of installing entire wall panels that involves inserting shear keys and fiberglass mesh.
