They can be administered intermittently, with longer intervals between bisphosphonate administrations, as previously considered appropriate, e.g., intermittent administration of at least approximately 6 months or less frequent administration. Bisphosphonates, particularly the more potent N-bisphosphonates such as zoledronic acid and its derivatives, can be used with satisfactory results for the long-term inhibition of bone degeneration in conditions with more severe bone remodeling, such as osteoporosis.
