name describes the invention: a nozzle-equipped rod that creates a long, concentrated gas flow. The field of science related to the invention is mechanical engineering. The background of the art or science involved is primarily to create gas flow. For example, gas flow may be injected into a fluid for one or more reasons. Reactive gases may be injected into a liquid to react with one or more components of the liquid; for instance, oxygen may be injected into molten iron to react with carbon within the molten iron, removing carbon from the iron and heating the molten iron. Oxygen may also be injected into other molten metals such as copper, lead, and zinc for smelting. Non-reactive gases, such as inert gases, may be injected into a liquid to agitate it, for example, to improve temperature distribution or better distribution of components throughout the liquid. The liquid is usually contained in a vessel, such as a reactor or molten vessel, where the liquid forms a well within the vessel that corresponds to the bottom and some lengths of the side walls and the top surface. When injecting the gas into the liquid well, there is a need to have as much gas as possible flowing into the liquid to achieve the gas injection. When gas is injected from a gas injection device into a liquid, if the nozzle is spaced a certain distance above the liquid surface for a normal gas stream, a significant amount of gas will be deflected, impacting the liquid surface and not entering the liquid well. Furthermore, this action causes splashing of the liquid, resulting in material loss and operational problems. Immersion injection using the bottom or side wall of the gas injection device, while highly efficient, presents challenges when the liquid is corrosive or extremely hot. These conditions can lead to gas injection device degradation and internal corrosion of the container surface, requiring complex external cooling systems, frequent and costly maintenance downtime. A beneficial approach is to bring the tip or nozzle of the gas injection device closer to the liquid well surface, avoiding direct contact, and to inject the gas at high velocities so that most of the gas passes into the liquid. However, this method is still unsatisfactory because the proximity of the nozzle tip to the liquid can still cause significant damage to the device. Additionally, if the liquid surface is not stationary, the nozzle must constantly move along the moving surface to ensure gas injection occurs at the desired location. The required distance between the lance tip and the surface of the molten iron bath in an electric arc furnace requires a complex, expensive, and maintenance-intensive hydraulic lance drive. Another method uses a lead pipe to pass through the surface of the molten iron bath, such as a water-cooled pipe, to inject oxygen into the molten iron bath in the electric furnace. However, this method is unsatisfactory due to rapid pipe wear, requiring a hydraulic lance drive and feeder to compensate for the wear rate. Furthermore, the continuous loss of pipe for replacement is expensive. These problems can be solved if a coherent jet can be created. A coherent gas jet maintains its diameter and velocity after injection over a longer distance than a normal gas jet. With a coherent jet, the injector tip can be positioned much further from the molten iron surface while still allowing almost all of the gas within the coherent jet to penetrate the molten iron surface. In addition, coherent jets are found in other applications, such as current gas jet combustion applications. Characteristics and purpose of the invention: This invention... Generally concerning devices for generating gas flow, this invention is particularly useful for generating gas flow into liquids, such as molten metals, which create harsh environments for gas injection devices. Therefore, the aim of this invention is to present a device for injecting gas into a given volume so that the injected gas forms a coherent gas stream. Brief diagram descriptions: Figure 1 shows a cross-section of one coherent shape of the coherent jet injector lance of this invention. Figure 2 shows a cross-section of another coherent shape of the coherent jet injector lance of this invention. Figure 3 shows a simplified cross-section of one coherent shape of the coherent jet injector lance of this invention within the side wall of the container. Figure 4 shows a simplified front view of one coherent shape of the coherent jet injector lance of this invention with additional jet channels in the separate jet discharge enclosure. Figure 5 shows a simplified front view of one coherent shape of the coherent jet injector lance of this invention. There is another injection channel in the jacket that releases the combined current. The complete disclosure of the invention will achieve the above-mentioned purpose and other purposes which are apparent to a person of expertise in the arts and sciences when reading this disclosure. By this invention, the combined current injector consists of (A) an injector assembly having (1) a primary channel, an injection gap, and a nozzle whose inlet is in contact with the primary channel and whose outlet is in contact with the injection gap; (2) a first secondary channel radially spaced from the primary channel and in contact with the injection gap; and (3) a second secondary channel radially spaced from the first secondary channel and in contact with the injection gap; and (B) an jacket that encloses the injector assembly. Such jacket extends through the nozzle outlet to define the boundaries of the injection gap. The numbers in the figure are the same for identical components. The invention will be described in detail later, referring to the drawings. From Figure 1, the combined current injector 1 consists of the injector assembly and the outer jacket. The main injection channel assembly 2, which is in contact with the main gas source (not shown), can be any gas required for the convergence stream. Examples of such gases include oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, gaseous hydrocarbon fuels, and mixtures containing two or more of the above gases. Main channel 2 also contacts injector 3, which should be at least part of its own length in contact with the main channel. Injector 3 has a diameter less than the diameter of main channel 2 and less than the diameter of the injection gap 6, which should be at its maximum length, as shown in Figure 1. Injector 3 is a converging/blooming injector. Converging/blooming injector 3 has an inlet 4 that contacts main channel 2 and an outlet 5 that contacts injection gap 6. Radially spaced from main channel 2 is secondary channel one 7, and radially spaced from secondary channel one 7 is secondary channel two 8. One of the secondary channels one and two... The first secondary channel (7) should be in contact with the source of oxidant (not shown), and the second and third secondary channels (8) should be in contact with the fuel source (not shown). When oxygen is the primary gas, the first secondary channel (7) should be in contact with the fuel source, and the second secondary channel (8) should be in contact with the oxidant source. The oxidant should be a liquid containing at least 30 mole percent oxygen, ideally at least 90 mole percent oxygen. Technically, the oxidant may be pure oxygen containing 99.5 mole percent oxygen or more. The fuel may be any liquid fuel such as methane, propane, butylene, natural gas, hydrogen, coal gas, or oil. Each of the first and second secondary channels (7) should be in contact with the injection gap (6) which should be level or flat as shown in Figure 1, with a converging/blooming nozzle outlet (5) (3). Figure 1 shows the ideal configuration of this invention where each of the first and second secondary channels (7) becomes multiple channels. Each of the first and second secondary channels (7) The injection gap 6 is contacted by an annular ring of holes around the outlet 5, or by one or two secondary channels, or both contacting the injection gap 6 as an annular ring around the outlet 5. The injector assembly is enclosed by an enclosure 9 that runs along the length of the injector assembly, and an extension of the enclosure 10 extends through the injector outlet 5 to define the injection gap 6. The enclosure extension 10 is typically no more than 12 inches long and should be within the range of 0.5 to 7.0 inches. The enclosure extension does not necessarily have to encircle the entire injector assembly and may have a length on one side of the injector assembly that exceeds its own length on the other side of the injector assembly, as shown in Figure 2. This arrangement has a specific advantage when installed as a ring around the side wall of the container. The enclosure 9, by the circulation of the refrigerant, such as water, in the refrigerant inlet and outlet channels 12, can create a protective zone in the injection gap, or volume 6, created by the enclosure extension 10, which prevents the immediate gas flow from exiting the gap. Primary and secondary channels are used to improve the accuracy of the merge stream, with a guiding environment for initial formation. Typically, the merge stream injector rod of this invention is mounted on the wall or roof of a container, such as a furnace, and is used to inject the gas flow as a merge stream into the container. Figure 3 shows one arrangement where the merge stream injector rod is mounted in an annular fashion on the inner wall of side 20 of a container, such as an electric furnace, to inject gas into 25 of the container. In this figure, the dark square 22 represents the injector assembly. In operation, the primary gas is injected from rod 1, forming a primary gas stream that typically has a velocity of 1000 feet per second (fps) or more. Fuel and oxidizer are injected from rod 1 and burn to create a flame envelope around the primary gas stream. If this invention is used in a hot environment, such as a smelting furnace, separate igniters for the fuel and oxidizer are not required. If not, this invention is used in an environment where the fuel and oxidizer are automatically ignited, and an ignition source, such as a spark generator, is required, the flame envelope should be established. With a velocity lower than the heat of the main gas stream, typically ranging from 50 to 1000 fps, the flame area creates a shield or liquid barrier around the main gas stream. This barrier reduces the amount of normal gas following into the high-velocity main gas stream, thus maintaining the consolidation of the main gas stream over a considerable distance after discharge from the rod. This allows for rod placement so that the rod tip is further away from where the main gas impacts or mixes with other liquids or solids, thus improving safety and rod maintenance. Generally, the amount of fuel and oxidizer delivered from the rod is sufficient to create an effective flame area for the desired length of the main gas stream. However, there may still be times when more fuel and oxidizer need to pass out of the rod so that the flame area not only acts as a shield against mixing with the normal gas in the environment but also provides high heat to the container, which in some form the rod acts as a burner. The enclosure of the consolidation stream injector rod of this invention may have an additional channel or more to deliver additional liquids or liquids. Or, one or more streams of solid particles may be supplied into a vessel into which the main gas stream is injected, as shown in Figure 3 by the additional channel 21 with 24 injection openings. One or more additional channels 21 may be used with the convergence stream injector rod of this invention to supply post-combustion oxygen to the furnace for the post-combustion method disclosed and claimed in U.S. 5,572,444 by Mathur while using the injector assembly to supply the main oxygen to the molten metal. One or more additional channels may supply additional liquid or particle streams in one or more streams parallel to the main gas stream or in one or more streams angled to or away from the main gas stream. Figure 4 shows one configuration of this invention that may be used to have two additional branching streams, and Figure 5 shows one configuration of this invention that may be used to have two additional streams from the rod, so that these two streams intersect the ends of the rod, or i.e., merge into each other. The axis of the channel or of the gas stream is An imaginary line running through the center of the channel or gas stream along its own length represents the axis of the main channel in Figure 1. The following are the requirements to be applied to the design of the converging stream injector rod of this invention: (1) Flow rate through the main channel: 20-150 MCFH at NTP (normal temperature and pressure); Supply pressure (source of the nozzle): 50-300 psig; Throat diameter for the converging-flare nozzle: D=K(Q/P)1/2, D-throat diameter-inches, Q-CFH at NTP for the main gas flow rate, P-absolute pressure (psig), K=0.03 to 0.04, D=1/4 57' 2; (2) Oxygen to the annulus or nozzle ring: Deq=CQ1/4, Deq=diameter of the tube at the cross-sectional area of the annulus. or equal circumference Deq= square root of [cross-sectional area of the ring of the hole or circumference (square inches) divided by (Pi/4)] Q-CFH at NTP for the main gas flow rate C=0.013 to 0.16 (3) Fuel to the ring of the hole or circumference surrounding the nozzle Deq=JQ1/4/H1/2 Q-CFH at NTP for the main gas flow rate H-heat value of fuel-BYU/CF (at NTP) J=0.4 to 0.5 The following by using this invention can be efficiently produced into a combined gas stream. Although this invention has been described in detail by referring to some forms which should be understood by those of expertise, there are other forms of the invention within the purposes and scope of the claims. The best method of invention is the same as that described in the complete disclosure of the invention.
