Abstract

The present invention provides a pre-moistened, dispersible, biodegradable wet wiper consisting of a non-woven fiber pulp in contact with a PVOH-containing binder. The fiber in contact with the binder further comprises an aqueous lotion solution consisting of from about 0.1 to about 0.9% by weight of boric acid lotion and from an amount of 5 to about 8% by weight of alkali bicarbonate lotion. The resulting wet wiper has a pH between 7 and 9 and a wet strength between about 8 and about 20 oz/in.

Claims (9)

1. Pre-moistened, dispersible, biodegradable wet wipes comprising (a) nonwoven fibers and a binder selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol, polymer emulsions stabilized with polyvinyl alcohol in water, mixtures of polyvinyl alcohol and polymers, emulsions in water, and combinations thereof, (b) an aqueous lotion comprising from about 0.1 to about 0.9% by weight of boric acid lotion, from about 5 to about 8% by weight of alkali bicarbonate lotion, and a preservative having the effect of inhibiting microbial activity in said lotion, and (c) said wet wipes having a pH between about 7 and about 9 and a wet durability between about 8 and about 20 oz/in. 2. The wet wiper of claim 1, wherein the amount of the aqueous lotion solution therein is in the range from 100 to 350% by weight of the fibers. 3. The wet wipes of claim 1, wherein the boric acid is from about 0.3 to about 0.7% by weight of the lotion. 4. The wet wipes of claim 1, wherein the alkali metal bicarbonate is from about 6 to about 7% by weight of the lotion. 5. The wet wipes of claim 1, wherein the boric acid is from about 0.3 to about 0.7% by weight of the lotion and the alkali metal bicarbonate is from about 6 to about 7% by weight of the solution. 6. The wet wiper of claim 5, wherein the wet wiper has a wet strength between about 12 and about 16 oz/in. 7. The wet wipes of claim 1, wherein the bicarbonate of the alkali lotion is sodium bicarbonate. 8. The wet wipes device of claim 1, wherein the aqueous lotion solution further comprises a humectant and a surfactant. 9. The wet wipes of claim 8, wherein the aqueous solution further comprises a fragrance. The pre-moistened, dispersible, biodegradable wet wipes comprise (a) nonwoven fibers and a binder selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol, polymer emulsions stabilized with polyvinyl alcohol in water, mixtures of polyvinyl alcohol and polymers, emulsions in water and combinations thereof; (b) an aqueous lotion comprising from about 0.3 to about 0.7 % by weight of boric acid lotion, from about 6 to about 7 % by weight of sodium bicarbonate lotion; (c) said lotion further comprises propylene glycol, cocoa amphodiacetate, polyserbate 20 methyl paraben, propyl paraben and sattoside A, which have the effect of inhibiting microbial activity. In such lotion and (d) such wet wipes have a pH between about 7 and about 9 and a wet durability between about 8 and about 20 oz/in.
