Abstract

The motor is for operation in the 6-8 pole mode giving a choice of two speeds. The stator has 36 slots and the coils are arranged in 16 groups. There are 6 terminals which, when connected in delta gives low speed operation, and high speed when in star. The arrangement of the coil groups is the same in each half of each phase, but the groupings of each pase is different. It follows a set pattern of one, two or three coils per group. The sequence of connection permits a higher utilisation factor per unit mass than on other pole changing machines, and also more economical building.
