Description
The use of an electrolyte of this composition has the following advantages: the concentration of perchloric acid is reduced from 6 to 0.015 M, i.e., 600 times, which makes it possible to reduce the level of contamination of americium solutions and use them in further studies; the concentration of phosphoric acid decreases from 2 to 1-1 10-M, i.e., more than five orders of magnitude, and since the concentration of phosphoric acid is three orders of magnitude lower than the concentration of americium, its presence is insignificant and can be neglected. That is, after oxidation, a pure solution of hexavalent americium is obtained, practically free from impurities, which can be used for work in any media that was not previously possible.
Example. 3-4 ml of Am (III) solution (1 10-4 - 2-10-2 M) in a 0.015 M solution of HClO4 containing NO-M HzRO4 are placed in the anode compartment of the electrochemical cell with separated anodic and cathodic spaces. The anode is a platinum grid with a surface area of 20 cm. A constant current of 5 mA is passed through the cell for 2 hours at room temperature; mixing the solution is carried out
Am (VI).argon current. After completing the test, the solution is removed from the cell and used to prepare Am (VI) solutions of the desired composition or Am (VI) compounds.
