Description

The author of the present invention proposes a method for determining the moisture content in gases by adsorption with a suitable organic solvent in which some electrolyte, for example oxalic acid, is dissolved, after which the amount of moisture absorbed can be determined from the electrical conductivity of the solution. Naturally, the proposed method can also be used to determine the moisture in an organic liquid; for what it is necessary to add some electrolyte soluble in it to the liquid under study. Measuring the value of electrical conductivity, it is possible to judge the amount of water in the analyzed liquid.

The proposed method is based on the fact that all organic liquids have a dielectric constant, significantly less than water, as a result of which, when the composition of the mixture changes, the fluctuation in the amount of water many times more influences the change in the dielectric constant organic liquids.

Instead of measuring the change in the value of the dielectric constant of the mixture, it is more convenient and easier to determine

Дл  измерени  электропроводности лучше всего пользоватьс  переменным током и схемой с отклон ющейс  стрелкой гальванометра (метод отклонени ).change in the electrical conductivity of any electrolyte dissolved in the sample. To measure electrical conductivity, it is best to use alternating current and a circuit with a deviating arrow of a galvanometer (deviation method).

The determination of water vapor content in the air and in industrial gas mixtures is carried out as follows. The gas mixture is passed through an absorber, for example, a White device, in which water vapor is absorbed by the absorbing liquid. The latter is a weak electrolyte solution in an organic liquid that is miscible with water. In some cases, a predetermined amount of water should be added to this solution. After the passage of the White device, the absorber is fed into the conductivity cell, measured according to a scheme with a deviation of the arrow of the galvanometer. The more water vapor contained in the investigated gas mixture, the greater will be the electrical conductivity of the absorbing liquid, and the more significantly the deviation of the arrow of the galvanometer. By pre-calibrating the device, you can get
