Description
The present invention relates to the electrochemical purification of water from salts dissolved in it.
The electrochemical method of water purification consists in the fact that the water to be purified with a relatively thin layer (20-25 mm) is passed between two porous diaphragms and is simultaneously subjected to a direct electric current. At the same time, under the action of an electric current, the ions of the salts dissolved in water move in accordance with the sign of their inherent electric charge. The cations move beyond the cathode diaphragm and, after being discharged, form the corresponding hydrates of oxides in the cathode space with simultaneous evolution of hydrogen. The anions move beyond the anode diaphragm and, discharging at the anode, form solutions of the corresponding acids in the anode space, and oxygen evolution takes place. In order to prevent the accumulation in the cathode and anode spaces of significant concentrations of alkali hydrates and acids, these spaces are continuously washed with the same purified water. By using relatively low current densities and corresponding speeds of the water being cleaned and rinsing water, it is possible to continuously carry out the process of electroosmotic water purification with a significant current utilization ratio and relatively low power consumption.
д.Despite its simplicity and considerable prescription, the electroosmotic method has not found wide distribution. The last circumstance is explained by the fact that the used filter-pressing equipment for electroosmotic purification of WATER, on the one hand, is very difficult to install and especially to maintain, and on the other hand, the unit capacity of the apparatus is insufficient for industrial use. Due to the above circumstances, the electroosmotic method has been used only for supplying clean water to small consumers, for example, pharmacies, laboratories, etc.
The main idea of the present invention is to use a large number of rigid concentrically arranged tubular diaphragms with common anode, cathode and
