Description
For the production of sulfur, methods are known in which sulfur is formed by the action of carbon monoxide on sulfur dioxide, or on sulfur dioxide on sulfur dioxide or iron sulphide, or on incomplete burning of pyrite, or on burning it together with coal.
In the proposed method, based on the reactions used in these methods, the starting product for sulfur production is carbonaceous pyrite, which is burned in a shaft or tube furnace with insufficient air supply to completely oxidize pyrite, with the aim of performing three processes at one time; 1) oxidation of half of the sulfur of pyrites to sulfur dioxide, 2) reduction of sulfur dioxide into sulfur, and 3) sublimation of the other half of sulfur of pyrites due to the heat of gases.
Charcoal pyrite loaded into the shaft furnace passes from top to bottom with insufficient for complete oxidation of the amount of air supplied from the bottom of the furnace, in which the following reactions take place: 1) in the lower zone
а)С + a) C +
2) in the upper zone
а)С02 + a) C02 +
б)FeS2- FeS + S,b) FeS2- FeS + S,
в)2SO2 + + S.,;c) 2SO2 + + S.,;
г)6FeS + 4SO2 - 2Fe3 О, + 55,.d) 6FeS + 4SO2 - 2Fe3 O, + 55 ,.
SO2.Thus, in the upper zone, the physical heat of gases contributes to the sublimation of half of the sulfur contained in pyrites; carbon dioxide coming from below is reduced by coal to carbon monoxide, and the latter reduces sulfur dioxide coming from the lower zone to sulfur. In addition, sulfur dioxide is partially recovered by iron sulfide. In the lower zone, coal is burned to CO2 and FeS to Fej O and SO2.
SOs.In the case of intermediate reactions (formation of COS, CSa, etc.), the formed substances are reduced by known methods using an excess of SOs.
In order to avoid goats, in the part of the furnace where FeS is predominantly used is a well-known method of introducing cold exhaust gas into this zone after removing sulfur from it, thereby lowering the temperature of this zone.
The process also proceeds successfully in a tube furnace, which allows for precise control of air intake and temperature conditions along the length of the furnace.
