Термоэлемент состоит из двух разнородных проводников 2 и 6, один из которых подвижен относительно другого. При нагревании последнего в месте касани  между осью 3 и проводником б создаетс  разность потенциалов. Соединив ось 3 с концом 5 неподвижного проводника помощью провода 1, можно получить в этой цепи электрический ток.
