Abstract
The invention relates to methods for producing dry-formed paper and can be used in the pulp and paper industry. The purpose of the invention is to increase the mechanical strength of the paper. The method consists in forming a fibrous layer from a suspension of cellulose fibers, impregnating the layer with a 2-8% aqueous solution of resorcinol, pressing and drying the resulting paper. Resorcinol is a liquid reagent for treating a fibrous layer. It is a chemical compound that refers to polyhydric phenols and has two hydroxyl groups in the molecule, which makes it highly prone to form hydrogen bonds that determine the strength of paper. In aqueous solutions of resorcinol, cellulose fibers are subject to significantly greater swelling than in pure water. The deep penetration of water into the intergranular spaces of cellulose fibers contributes to their plasticization, increases flexibility, which ensures a more complete contact of the fibers during subsequent processes of pressing and drying the paper web as a result of capillary contraction forces. In addition, resorcinol molecules directly increase the total interfiber interaction energy in the paper structure due to the formation of cellulose – resorcinol – cellulose bonds. Binding of two neighboring cellulosic fibers involves not only single molecules, but also chains of several molecules of resorcinol, which also leads to an increase in the bound surface in paper, and, consequently, increases its strength. 3 tab.
Description

The purpose of the invention is to increase the mechanical strength of the paper.
The essence of the proposed method consists in the formation of a fibrous layer from aerosol suspension of cellulose fibers, impregnation of the layer with 2 to 8% aqueous solution of resorcinol, pressing and drying the resulting paper.
The use in the method as a liquid reagent for treating the fibrous layer of resorcinol, a chemical compound belonging to polyatomic phenols and having two hydroxyl groups in the molecule, causes it to be highly prone to the formation of hydrogen bonds that determine the strength of the paper.
In aqueous solutions of resorcinol, cellulosic fibers are significantly more swelling than in pure water. The deep penetration of water into the intercrystallite spaces of cellulosic fibers contributes to their plasticization, increases flexibility, which in subsequent processes of pressing and drying the paper web as a result of capillary contraction forces causes a more complete contact of the fibers. In addition, resorcinol molecules themselves directly increase the total interfiber interaction energy in the paper structure by forming bonds cellulose – resorcinol – cellulose. The binding of two neighboring cellulosic fibers involves not only single molecules, but also chains of several resorcinol molecules, which also leads to an increase in the bound surface in the paper, and consequently, its strength.
