Abstract

FIELD: heat and strength testing of structural materials predominantly while predicting and evaluating service life of structural members in atomic power engineering. SUBSTANCE: conditions for localization of deformation are created during tests by means of heating of sample and its deformation at constant temperature equal to radiation temperature till maximum uniform deformation of sample is achieved. Load is recorded, sample is cooled without interruption until brittle crack starts to develop. Start of its development is found by decrease of recorded load. Temperature of sample is measured at this moment and its value is assumed to be critical temperature of embrittlement. EFFECT: provision for safety during tests of irradiated samples thanks to remote determination of characteristics of low-temperature radiation embrittlement of materials.
