Description

Laboratory methods are known for determining mass transfer coefficients necessary for calculating absorbers in which alcohol vapors are captured in alcohol factories. These include methods based on saturating the air with alcohol vapors, boiling alcohol, bar-booting air through a layer of alcohol, blowing air through an ice-drip spray irrigated with alcohol.

A method is proposed for determining the mass transfer coefficients of ethyl alcohol vapor absorption by vadou. The method consists in that the air is pre-saturated with vapors of alcohol sprayed with a nozzle, to the mixer-evaporator. To eliminate the entrainment of alcohol droplets at high air speeds, saturated air after the mixer-evaporator passes a drip pan and then enters the absorption into a pan or packed column from plexiglass, where alcohol vapors are absorbed by water. To determine the mass transfer coefficients, the alcohol content in the air is measured up to the column using a gas meter and a baroteter filled with a mixture of chromium and sulfuric acid. The alcohol content in the air after the column is determined by a gas meter and a bubbler. Mass transfer coefficients can also be determined from the alcohol content in water.

A distinctive feature of the proposed method is the saturation of air with alcohol vapors in a mixer-evaporator, in which a metered amount of alcohol is sprayed by nozzles.

The proposed method of saturating air by spraying alcohol with nozzles is simpler in terms of technological design, allows varying the experimental parameters within a narrow range, and reduces the consumption and loss of alcohol by one experiment compared to known methods.
