Description
The described method of storing liquefied gases at low temperatures in vessels with porous cooling insulation, in contrast to well-known methods, reduces the amount of evaporating liquefied gas during its storage. This is achieved by insulating the vessel by cooling it with atmospheric air, which has been pre-cooled, dried and cleaned by heat exchange with the waste vapors of evaporating liquefied gas in refrigerators.
The drawing shows a storage scheme with a vessel having porous cooling insulation.
3.The vessel 1, enclosed in the outer casing 2, is filled with liquefied gas to be stored. The space between vessel 1 and casing 2 is filled with porous insulation 3.
The vaporized / liquefied gas in the pipe 4 is sent to the regenerators 5. One of the regenerators is cooled with gas, the latter being heated to a positive temperature, giving a coolant to the nozzle of the regenerator.
6.After switching the valves through the cold regenerator, a stream of warm air is passed through which is cooled by heat exchange with the regenerator nozzle. The cooled air as it leaves the regenerator enters insulation 3 through a perforated coil 6.
7.The cooling of the insulation 3, this air flow is heated and with a positive temperature is discharged through a perforated coil 7.
Part of the air escapes through the leaks of the casing 2 into the storage room, preventing the penetration of moist atmospheric air into the insulation.
2.From the coil 7, the flow of warm air through pipe 8 goes to the fan 9, which raises the pressure of this air flow and part of the air drawn from the atmosphere. The amount of air drawn in is equal to the amount of air that has passed through the leaks of the casing 2.
After the fan 9, the air flow through the pipe 10 enters the regenerator, which is on a warm blast. Switching regenerators occurs automatically at certain intervals of time.
Moisture and other impurities that are in the sucked-up atmospheric air are frozen out on the nozzle of the regenerator and removed from the nozzle during the period of cold air with vapor of the vaporizing gas.
Thus, clean cold dried air enters the insulation 5, reducing the heat influx through the insulation and the evaporation of stored liquefied gas, which prevents the penetration of atmospheric air into the insulation.
