Abstract

A carton accommodating a plurality of articles, such as bottles, comprising a top (16, 26), a base (12, 30) and a pair of side walls (14, 28) interconnecting said top and base thereby forming a tubular structure, said top being provided with two spaced rows of apertures (54, 56, 58, 60, 62, 64) through which the top portions of said articles protrude and a carrying handle means (18, 20, 22) extending upwardly from said top characterised in that said handle means is located between said two rows of apertures and is off set from a plane disposed midway between said rows of apertures.

Description

The present invention relates to a cardboard carrier for carrying a plurality of articles comprising an upright handle as well as a blank of cardboard.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

EP 0 456 448 discloses a cardboard carrier for storing a plurality of objects, such as bottles, comprising a top, a base and a pair of side walls connecting the top and the base to form a cylindrical body with a handle erected from the top and with securing clips that secure the opposing panels at the bottom of the handle to keep it upright.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The drawbacks of the prior art are overcome by a cardboard carrier with a handle for holding a plurality of objects, such as bottles, comprising a top, a base and a pair of side panels which connect the top and the base to form a cylindrical form of the carrier. two rows of apertures for attaching to the throats of the stored articles, and a handle which extends upwardly from the top, the principle being that the handle is positioned between the two rows of apertures and extends from a plane in the middle of both rows of apertures.

In a preferred embodiment, the handle further comprises a pair of juxtaposed handle panels that are rotatably connected, at a distance from the top of the carrier to form an upright handle, and coupling means that interconnect the lower portions of the handle to prevent separation of the handle panels from each other. their pivotal connections. These fasteners comprise a securing clip cut from the top panel and one of the handle panels, the securing clip being engaged in one of the openings adjacent the opposite handle panel. In another preferred embodiment, the securing clip is retained in one of said apertures in the upper portion of the carrier to hold the upper portion of one of the stored objects.

The present invention also provides a plurality of cartons for storing a plurality of articles comprising a cross-section with a base, side wall, first panel top, first and second handle panels, second panel top, second side wall panel, and second base, respectively. in turn, the first and second bases are connected so as to form a cylindrically shaped carrier, the first and second handles of panels forming an upright handle, the top of which is at a distance from the first and second top panels and which extends from the transverse center plane of the blank. In a preferred embodiment, the handle is fastened by binding means formed by openings and securing clips located at or near the bottom of the first and second handle panels to prevent the handle panels from deviating from their pivotal connection.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

1 shows a non-folded blank 10 of cardboard or other similar collapsible sheet material, the components of which are in this order: base 12, first side panel 14, middle panel 15, first panel top 16, first handle panel 18, second panel 20 handles, third handle panel 22, fourth handle panel 24, second top panel 26, middle panel 27, second side panel 28, and second base 30. All of these parts are folded together along the transverse fold lines in the following order: 32, 34 , 36.38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50 and 52.

The underside of the side panels 14 and 28 and the base panels 12 and 30 are not described in detail as they are not directly related to the present invention and are well known in the art.

A row of three bottle neck openings 54, 56 and 58 is cut from the top panel panel 16. Each of the apertures includes a securing portion 54a, 56a, and 58a adjacent the lower portion of the handle panel 18. Similarly, a series of three bottle neck openings 60, 62, and 64 are partially cut from the top panel panel 26. However, these openings are not provided with securing parts.

Securing clips 66, 68, and 70 are cut from the handle panel 24 and rotatably supported along the line of contact 46 at the lower end of the handle panel 18. The retaining clips comprise D-shaped locking heads with locking edges 66a, 68a and 70a.

In the handle panels 20 and 22, there are handle openings 72 and 74 with tabs for gripping 76 and 78.

Adjacent to the handle panels 18, 20 is a reinforcement panel 80 that is coupled to the handle panel 20 along a bend line 82. The reinforcement panel 80 is separated from the handle panel 18 by a slit 84 extending from the fold line 40 to one of the side edges of the handle panel 18. Adjacent to the handle panels 22, 24 is a reinforcement panel 86 that is connected to the handle panel 22 along a bend line 88. The reinforcement panel 86 is separated from the handle panel 24 by a slit 89 extending from the fold line 44 to the side edge of the handle panel 24. The reinforcement panels 80, 86 are rotatably connected along their common side edge by a fold line 90.

The reinforcement panel 92 is disposed adjacent to the opposite side edge of the handle panels 18, 20 and is connected to the handle panel 20 along the fold line 94. From the handle panel 18, the reinforcement panel 92 is separated by a slit 96 extending from the fold line 40 to the side edge of the handle panel 18. The reinforcement panel 98 is disposed adjacent the opposite side edge of the handle panels 22, 24 and is rotatably coupled to the handle panel 22 along a bend line 100. From the handle panel 24, the reinforcement panel 98 is separated by a slit 102 extending from the fold line 44 to the side edge of the handle panel 24. The reinforcement panels 92, 102 are rotatably connected along their common edge by a fold line 104.

The openings 110 and 112 are optionally cut from the common edges of the reinforcement panels 80, 86 and 92, 98, thereby breaking the fold line 42 and facilitating the carrier folding process described above.

The complete assembly of the carrier according to the invention, shown in Figures 1 to 3, requires a series of successive interleaving and gluing. The folding procedure is not limited to the above description and may be varied according to any manufacturing requirements.

The blank is thus adapted to form a battery pack of six bottles placed in two rows of three, so that portions of the bottle neck 114 (see Fig. 3) protrude from the bottle neck openings in the handle panels that together form the upright handle H between the two rows of bottles.

When folding the blank into a carrier, fold the reinforcement panels 80, 86 of the handle along the fold lines 82 and 88 against the panels 18, 20, 22, 24 of the handle. Similarly, fold the reinforcement panels 92 and 98 along the fold lines 90 and 100 against the panels 18, 20 and 22, 24 of the handle.

Then, erect the handle panels 18, 19 side-by-side out of the blank plane so that the handle openings are more or less facing each other. More precisely, the securing clips 66, 68 and 70 are folded along the fold line 46 by 180 degrees against the panel of the top 26. The locking tabs 66, 68 and 70 are thus aligned against the openings 54, 56 and 58.

The clips are then connected to the openings in such a way that the heads of the locking clips 66, 68 and 70 appear in the openings 54, 56 and 58 with the locking edges 66a, 68a and 70a in connection with the locking parts 54a, 56a and 58a.

The panels of the upper portions 16 and 26 are bent out of the connection with the handle structure along the fold lines 38 and 46. The blank is then seated on the battery of bottles to be packed by making the handle H (see Fig. 3) formed of panels 18 20 and 22, 24 of the handle, is disposed between the two rows of bottles and extends from a plane between the two rows of openings.

At the time of adjusting the bottle neck openings above the respective bottles, the heads of the securing clips 66, 68 and 79 meet the respective path of movement between the cardboard blank and the rows of bottles. There are holes 54, 56 and 58 above the neck of the bottles. The cardboard cut is then placed on the neck of the bottles, tilting the heads of the retaining clips 66, 68 and 70 and placing them between the handle panel 18 and the neck of the adjacent bottle. In Fig. 3, a first bottle is selected in close proximity to make the shape of the retaining clip 66 apparent. The handle panels 18, 24 are thus connected by the retaining clips 66, 68 and 70 so as to remain upright for use.

By lifting the handle H from the middle plane between the two rows of holes, the pressure exerted on the retaining clips is increased - that is, a particularly strong handle is required. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited to carton with securing clips. The handle erected from the median plane between the two rows of openings can be used on cartons of this type even without securing clips. By using a similar, upright handle, its strength can be increased.

To complete the assembly of the carrier in the form of Figure 3, fold the side panels 14 and 28 down and fold and secure the base 12 and 30 below the bottom of the bottles. The overlap, facilitating gripping S in Figure 2, is achieved by folding the flaps of the two corresponding holes of the handle. For convenience, the optional handle panels 20, 22 bend along the bend line 40/44 to a substantially rectangular position (see FIG. 2). For convenience, the top of the handle may be between the bottle caps. However, for better storage, the handle panels 20, 22 can be bent along the bend line 40/44 and leaned against the bottle stoppers (see Figure 3).

In the described carrier arrangement, the strength of the handle is increased by the reinforcement panels 80, 86 and 92, 98.

The present invention and its preferred embodiment relate to an article carrier which, by its shape, provides sufficient strength for safe storage of bottles, but at the same time has sufficient flexibility so that the weight of the load acting on the handle is distributed throughout the carrier. The shape of the blank reduces the amount of cardboard required to a minimum. Storage of the bottle battery can be carried out manually or automatically. We expect that the present invention is applicable to various types of carriers and is not limited to the described embodiment.

Claims (5)

Cardboard carrier with a handle for storing a plurality of objects, such as bottles, comprising a top (16, 26), a base (12) and a pair of side panels (14, 28) connecting the tops (16, 26) and a base (12), thereby forming a cylindrical form of the carrier, wherein at the top (16, 26) there are two rows of apertures (54, 56, 58; 60, 62, 64) for mounting on the neck (114) of the stored articles; a handle (H) extending upwardly from the top, characterized in that the handle (H) is located between the two rows of holes (54, 56, 58; 60, 62, 64) and extends from a plane in the middle of the two rows of holes 60, 62, 64).
