Abstract

A method for installing prefabricated vertical drain has steps of mounting an end of a wick drain (50) through a leading mandrel (10) and at least one connecting mandrel (20); securely attaching the end of the wick drain (50) to an anchor plate (60) covering an end of the leading mandrel (10) to prevent soil from entering the leading mandrel (10); inserting the end of the leading mandrel (10) substantially vertically into soil to leave another end of the leading mandrel (10) above soil; connecting the connecting mandrel (20) to the leading mandrel (10) to form a mandrel assembly; inserting the mandrel assembly into soil; extracting the mandrel assembly to leave a portion of the wick drain (50) in soil; and cutting the wick drain (50), whereby a prefabricated vertical drain is installed. Therefore, the method as described above is useful for installing prefabricated vertical drain in an environment with limited headroom. An apparatus for installing PV drain is also provided.
