Abstract

TREATMENT OF HYDROCARBON-CONTAMINATED AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS The present invention relates to a process for treating an aqueous solution containing hydrocarbons, the process comprising the step of exposing said aqueous solution to a biofilm of at least one of the following microorganisms: Bacillus sp. microorganisms, Acinetobactersp microorganisms and Brevibacillus sp. microorganisms, in a treatment zone containing said aqueous solution while providing substantially aerobic conditions in said treatment zone during at least part of said exposing step to reduce the amount of said hydrocarbons in said aqueous solution.
