Abstract

Method and Apparatus for measuring surface wear of a micro device Apparatus and a corresponding method for measuring surface wear of a micro device, in particular of a cylinder micro motor shaft, by measuring frictional resistance during rotation. The micro shaft (201) is positioned within a circular opening of a test member (202). A motor (203) rotates the micro shaft (201) while a force sensor (206) measures the rotational force on the test member (202) that is indicative of the frictional resistance between test member (202) and the micro shaft (201) and thus indicative of the surface wear of the cylinder micro motor shaft (201). In one embodiment the force sensor (206) is coupled to the test member (202) and can restrain the movement of the test member (202). In a second embodiment the motor (203) is an electric motor and the force is measured by measurement of the back-emf of the motor (203). And in yet another embodiment the micro shaft (201) is placed horizontally and can be supported at both ends.
