Abstract
Provided is a photocatalytic air cleaning structure in which the air cleaning effect of a photocatalyst is improved by being efficiently irradiated with ultraviolet light, and which allows an entire air cleaner to have a reduced thickness, resulting in a reduction in thickness or size of the air cleaner. A photocatalytic filter 2 is configured such that a plurality of plate- shaped members 20 on which a photocatalyst is carried face each other with a gap therebetween, and the gaps 21 form an air flow path 41. Each plate-shaped member 20 has end surfaces 22a and 22b respectively on an air entrance side and an air exit side of the gap 21. A UV irradiation unit 3 faces the end surfaces on at least one of the air entrance side and the air exit side of the plate-shaped members 20, and is a predetermined distance away from those end surfaces. An air supply path 40 for taking air from a lateral direction substantially parallel to the end surfaces, and supplying the air to the flow path 41, or an air discharge path 42 for discharging the air exiting the flow path 41 to a lateral direction substantially parallel to the end surfaces, is formed between the UV irradiation unit 3 and the end surfaces 22a/22b of the plate-shaped members.
