Abstract

In a method and an apparatus, the acoustic emission signal is used to determine the roundness of a workpiece. The cutting variation is monitored by sampling the acoustic emission signal. The cutting variation is then correlated, preferably in the frequency domain, to the workpiece roundness. By using such a method there is no need to perform post-grinding measurements in order to determine the roundness error of the ground workpiece.
