Abstract

The apparatus for determining the spatial position of an animal teat (2) for use with an automatic milking system uses a light source (1) illuminating the teat in a horizontal plane, an image capturing device (4) associated with a detector surface (5) and an image processor (10). A relative distance (y) from an opening of the light source to a central point on the detector surface is predetermined, as is a relative distance (f) from the detector surface to the optical center of a convergence device (3). The position in space of the convergence device, the detector surface and the opening of the light source is determined.
