The safety device (10) includes a spiked bar (11) parallel to the saw chain plane and alongside the chain, and a chain trap (15) perpendicular to the saw chain plane and extending under the saw chain. The safety device is made in one piece. The spiked bar may be made from metal sheet, with the chain trap formed by a sector of the same sheet at a right angle to the spiked bar.
