Abstract

The system includes a local terrestrial satellite (LTS) located in a mast or any other supporting structure. Each terrestrial satellite has high frequency communication equipment corresponding to a conventional geostationary satellite, for the digital transmission of video, audio or data. This is arranged to transmit in the L band, that is 1 to 2 GHz, the S band, that is 2 to 4 GHz, or in a higher frequency band with a relatively low power output. The system has an omnidirectional antenna installation for transmission in the horizontal plane. The signals are preferably digitised according to MPEG-2.
