Abstract
Two sludge removal pumps (1, 2) are arranged in series and are each connected to their own drive mechanisms (4, 5a, 5b). The mechanism for the second pump is altered depending on pressure build-up at the first pump. A system for removing sludge from a vessel or transport device (1) comprises a first pump (2) located in the outlet in the lower region of the vessel. The suction side of the pump is connected to base of the vessel, and a second pump (3) is arranged in series with the first pump with the suction side connected to the exit side of the first pump. A first drive mechanism (4) is used to operate the first pump for a first given time period, and a second drive mechanism (5a, 5b) is used to operate the second pump. A detection device (7) is used to monitor a parameter associated with pressure build-up in the first pump, and this data is used to actuate an activation device (11) for activating the second drive mechanism in order to alter the pump capacity of the second pump.
