Abstract

The method of connecting a smaller diameter branch pipe or manhole and a mains pipe made of concrete comprises machining flat annular surfaces round the bore and outer surfaces of a through hole formed in the wall of the mains pipe. A special cutting tool has been developed for this purpose and a sleeve is mounted in the through hole and located on the flat surfaces formed to connect and seal the branch pipe to the mains pipe. - The connection between a smaller diameter pipe (30) or a manhole with a concrete mains pipe (2), has a through hole (8) formed through the wall (6) of the mains pipe, a connection sleeve (32) mounted in the through hole to secure the smaller diameter pipe to the mains pipe and forms a seal. Flat annular seating surfaces for the connection sleeve parallel to the axis of the mains pipe, are formed on the bore and outer surfaces of the mains pipe using a special cutting tool, which cuts the hole in the wall of the mains pipe, developed for this purpose.
