Abstract

The sealing device includes two conical or cylindrical sealing surfaces (6,8) which can be pressed together in an axial direction. The device includes an elastic material sealing element (10) which is compressed in the sealing space between the sealing surfaces, and is bound to one of the sealing surfaces (6). The second sealing surface (8) is formed with projections (16). The sealing element forms, with the first sealing surface, a pair of portions (20,22) positioned adjacent each other; under the influence of the projection of the other sealing surface these present different compression resistance. The projection (16) co-operating with the portion (20) of the sealing element has the smallest compression resistance. The portion (22) of the sealing element that has the greatest compression resistance is positioned in front of the portion having the smallest compression resistance in the direction the sealing surfaces are pressed together; thus providing a resistance against axial displacement of the sealing surfaces from the sealing position.
