Abstract

The sensor comprises a measuring cell containing electroacoustic transmitter and receiver components enclosed within a mantle maintained at a constant temperature by heating elements (8a-8o). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A sensor for measuring or monitoring mean molecular weight variations in air or other gas mixtures includes at least one electroacoustic component for transmitting and receiving acoustic waves in a measuring cell, and at least one connection is provided between the cell and the location(s) where measuring or monitoring is taking place, allowing gas to pass through but not solid or liquid particles present in the gas. The measuring cell forms an air-filled chamber enclosed by a casing with good thermal conductivity properties, surrounded by at least one thermally insulated mantle. At least one resistive heating element and at least one temperature sensor are in good thermal contact with the casing. At least one electronic unit is electrically connected to the electroacoustic components, heating elements and temperature sensor. The casing is maintained at an essentially constant temperature above the working temperature of the sensor, within a maximum deviation of 0.1 deg. C.
