Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cost of bearings, etc., of a refrigerant compressor, and prevent early degradation of a viscous fluid in a viscous fluid coupling. SOLUTION: The heating device is provided with a refrigerant compressor 2, an input shaft 14 coupled to an engine, a viscous fluid coupling 1 for connecting the input shaft 14 to a driving shaft 17 of the refrigerant compressor 2 through viscous fluid, a restraining means for selectively restraining the rotation of the driving shaft 17, and a heat exchanging mechanism (water jacket FW, RW) functioning by heat energy generated in the viscous fluid coupling 1 based on the relative rotational motion between the restrained driving shaft 17 and the input shaft 14. The viscous fluid coupling 1 is provided with a viscous fluid quantity adjusting means 20 which is capable of adjusting the quantity of viscous fluid in an operating chamber 11 of the viscous fluid coupling 1 in order to change torque to be transmitted to the driving shaft 17 to make the number of revolutions of the driving shaft, therefore the capacity of the refrigerant compressor 2 variable, and to change the quantity of generated heat energy to make the capacity of the heat exchanging mechanism variable.
