Abstract
Contaminated solvent is stirred with detergent and then the detergent phase containing the printing ink residues is separated from the solvent phase. A method for purifying a cleaning agent containing paraffins, fatty acid esters, aliphatic hydrocarbons and optionally methyl esters and organic acids, in order to remove printing inks comprising vegetable oils, resins and pigments such as active carbon and/or other (in)organic contaminants, comprises the following steps : (a) addition of detergent (16) to the contaminated cleaning agent ; (b) stirring (20) the resulting mixture : and (c) separation of the detergent phase (24) containing the ink residues from the cleaning agent (22). Independent claims are also included for: (a) two processes for treating a mixture of water and the above cleaning agent, formed during the cleaning of a printing press; and (b) the use of a detergent for the recovery of the above cleaning agent after it has been used to clean a printing press.
