Abstract

A web tension control unit is distanced from the storage reel and placed in the immediate proximity of the process line. The unit includes a spreader or smoothing roll (14). The unit includes a pretension or spring-biassed dancing arm (2) which is pivotable about a fixed axle (3) and which is intended to support a web loop. The pretension force on the dancing arm (2) acts in a direction opposite to the direction of the gravitational force acting on said arm.
