Abstract

The gauge comprises a gauge rod (210), mounted from the piston head (200), moving axially in an opening (310) in the gauge housing (300) as the piston is displaced. A sensor (330) senses the position of the rod in the opening. The gauge rod is mounted from the piston head in a manner allowing it a limited freedom of movement transverse to the axial direction. The gauge rod head (220), which is inserted into a receiving hole in the piston head, is rounded so that it may roll against the end wall (250) of the hole. The gauge rod head is biased towards the end wall by a spring (240) wedged between the gauge rod head and a slotted washer (230).
