Abstract

The invention provides an arrangement for different frequency planning in a telecommunication system comprising a mobile telephone exchange, a number of base station sites with base stations controlled by the mobile telephone exchange and mobile stations. According to the invention, each base station site includes at least two sets of base stations, a first set of base stations (CC) having at least one broadcast channel using a wide lobe for a call set-up procedure and a second set of base stations (TC) having traffic channels using narrow lobes. The second set (3) of base stations has a tighter frequency reuse than the first set (2) of base stations, enabling less interference and increased relative capacity. The arrangement includes means for effecting a handover of the mobile station from the first set of base stations to the second set of base stations as soon as the call is set up.
