Abstract

Plant has a fibre producing section (A) with chip preheating (3) and beater (4) means for liberating fibres from wood chips. The fibres are transported through a size feeder to at least one dryer stage (C) to dry said fibres. A steam separator stage (B) is located between portions (A, C) and includes a cyclone separator (6) supplied from beater (4). The bottom outlet (53) of cyclone (6) is connected via a sluice valve (7) to a conveying line (55) to the dryer portion (C). The top cyclone output (54) is connected to another system to recover volatile organic compounds (VOC's) and heat from the separated steam. The system includes a heat exchanger (19) and a condensate receiving system (26). - Preferred Features: A scrubber (10) may be included in the VOC recovery system. A steam ejector (8) may be used to transport the fibres in line (55) but a compressed air ejector may also be used. A separate system with it's own scrubber (11) may take steam and VOC's from the top outlet of the chip preheater (3) for recovery. The recovered VOC's may be incinerated to provide hot air for the wood fibre drying means.
