Abstract

The optical fibre network includes at least one cable (15). The cable holds a number of ribbon fibres (9,11,13) and is connected to a line station (7) at a head end to transmit and receive information on individual optical fibres (19) comprised in the ribbon fibres. The optical fibre network also has several branching points provided between the head end of the cable and a far end of the cable. At each branching point at least one of the ribbon fibres is cut-off and at least one of the individual optical fibres in a cut-off ribbon fibre is connected to a subscriber. - A cut-off ribbon fibre is divided into one head end ribbon fibre piece which extends from the head end to a branching point and one far end ribbon fibre piece which extends from a branching point to the far end. In a branching point, where there is an end of an individual optical fibre in a head end ribbon fibre piece which is not connected to a subscriber, this end is connected to an end of an individual optical fibre in a far end ribbon fibre piece.
