Abstract

The present invention is related to an improved method for site-selective glycosylation of folded polypeptides and proteins comprising an imidazole function, preferably histidine, in position i flanked by at least one functional group, such as lysine, ornithine and/or a diaminobutyric acid residue, in positions i+4 and/or i-3, according to which a carbohydrate residue is incorporated into the polypeptide or protein by reacting a p-nitrophenyl ester of a non-protected carbohydrate with the polypeptide or the protein.
