Abstract

An absorbent article (1), such as a nappy or an incontinence pad for adults, comprises a liquid-tight outer cover layer (4), a water permeable inner cover layer (3) which is contact with the skin of the person wearing it, and an absorption body (2) enclosed between the two cover layers. The front section (8) of the article is worn against the belly, the rear section (10) is worn against the back and the intermediate section (9) is worn between the legs. A piece of liquid permeable material (11) extending over the inner cover layer and into the intermediate section of the article is attached to the edges (12-14) of the inner cover layer which are facing towards the rear section of the article and towards the sides of the article, forming an open pocket between the inner cover layer and this piece of material. Preferably the liquid permeable material forming the pocket is an elastic nonwoven.
