Abstract

A method for manufacturing a machine tool coated with abrasive powder, consisting of a substrate (1) coated with a cured binder containing embedded abrasive powder (eg. diamond powder), involves applying the uncured binder onto the substrate and is characterised by the following steps: (a) the viscosity of the binder layer (2) is set at a value which ensures that the powder (3) does not sink down into the layer; (b) powder particles are applied onto the binder layer to form a simple layer of abrasive powder; (c) a stamp (4) with a shape-defining surface (41) is pressed down against the powder layer; and (d) the binder layer is cured with the powder remaining in the positions defined by the shape on the stamp surface. Machine tools made by this method, containing abrasive powder particles embedded in the binder layer at various depths but still presenting a monoplanar abrasive surface, are also claimed.
