Abstract

The mouth guard is a unit (1) made from sterilised plastics having breathing channels (3) leading out from a central plastics ring (2) into which a removable circular valve casing can be screwed or permanently secured. The plastics is impermeable to germs and can be folded so that the guard is reduced to a size no larger than a credit card. The valve casing has a top section with a central depression and round hole for air supply, separated from a bottom section with a central round hole allowing air to enter and leave by an intermediate sheet containing a central depression corresponding to the depression in the top section. A flow of air through the hole in the top section will ensure that the sheet covers the hole in the valve casing next to the breathing channels. Oval holes around the edge of the sheet depression allow air to exit through the hole in the bottom section and they also seal the hole in the top section when air enters through the hole in the bottom section whilst keeping the holes around the edge of the valve casing in contact with the breathing channels to enable exhaled air to pass through these holes.
