Abstract

The bed (20) comprises two frames which rotate laterally to help to turn the patient. Each frame comprises a shaft (31) mounted parallel to the longitudinal axis of a base frame (1) of the bed. Several spaced battens (32) are mounted parallel to each other on the shaft. The battens are positioned in the spaces between fixed (14) and mobile (21) battens of the bed, and rotate when moved by the shaft. A drive system moves the shaft. The mobile battens are positioned higher than the fixed battens or sinks below them. By varying the parts of the patient's body to which pressure is applied, the frames help to turn the patient and to modify his or her resting position.
