Abstract

The shock absorber (1), includes an elongate member (19) which constricts a flow through a central recess when the member enters the recess (21). The member (19) can be displaced in the transverse direction if there is a discrepancy between the axes of the member and of the recess. The displacement takes place against friction and is effected by the interaction between the member and the piston and piston rod assembly (10,11,12). The member remains in its new position after the displacement by virtue of the friction. The pistons (11,12) are mounted directly on the front part of the piston rod which bears the recess (21).
