Abstract

The process comprises measurement of drainage in a first step without the application of pressure then compressing the partially dewatered material using a hydraulic cylinder to force out liquid, and the amount of liquid removed from the material. Also claimed is a device comprising a cylinder (2) filled with a set volume of sample material, sensor (7) and first valve (8) for stopping the flow of material into the cylinder, second valve (9) opened a set period after the first valve has been closed and cylinder (15) for compressing the partially dewatered material. Preferably the material contains (un)bleached lignocellulosic fibres and has a pulp concentration of 0.2-15 % before dewatering.
